Relevant to recent news of polygamist communities

I remember this movie and always liked it too. Thought it sad that young girls were married off with no choices. With all the recent news and arrest of Warren Jeffs and his polygamist communities, this movie would be very relevant to be seen by the public once again. From what I remember about this movie, it sounds exactly like what we are seeing on the news.

Short Creek, Arizona, now named Colorado City, was the home of the Fundamentalist Church of Jessus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS church) now led by Warren Jeffs. Jeffs was on the FBI's Ten Most-Wanted List from May, 2004 to August, 2006, when he was arrested.

If you read the plot outline...this is not a fictional story. This IS about the FLDS cult that has been in the news lately. Every time they come out with an article, a series, or an interview with one of the women who has escaped from this cult, I think of this movie.

I agree, it would be a good thing to air it again, or to refilm it, since it probably looks a bit dated. Then again, the way these people costume themselves, maybe the dated qualities wouldn't be so noticeable.

And ten years later, after the OP's post, this still exists in this day. It is heartbreaking that we know this still exists in this country and now these groups behave like the people in Waco so it is dangerous as hell to go up against their guns and bombs etc. Sick and sad.
