The Music in this film is cheesy

Man it was a cheese fest at the beginning of the film. This film should be banned just for the cheesy music. I felt like I was watching a 1980's richard simmons episode.

In politics nothing happens by accident; if it happens, you can be sure we planned it that way.FDR

I was born in 1972 and grew up in the 70's and 80's so I love movies like this with the kind of music that they play. It was great to hear it!

Yeah, loud, cheese-y and at least half of the time unrelated to what's happening on screen. And then there's the magnificently overdone 'comedy car' with the billowing smoke, sound effects and parts that drop off on the highway -another fine staple of vintage movies.

All of what you have mentioned is exactly vintage movies from back in the day that they would not do at all in todays films.

Right you are, RobBase086-1 - Even serious films occasionally had overbearing or intrusive music. I hadn't seen the original IN COLD BLOOD for a while and as much as I love Quincy Jones' work, it was a bit much in some scenes. Still an excellent film, though.

Thanks I am glad that you agree with me on this. I mean do not get me wrong I know that the times have to change some but I notice they do not show older movies on cable any longer unless it is a independent station that is local or if you live in a large media area is where you are going to see a variety of movies and shows shown on TV.

Oh yeah, part of the enjoyment is the stylistic aspects like the title lettering or even the 'credits up front' style of older movies. I started really loving films in the 60's. And genre films like so-called Blaxploitation are still fun to watch for the fashion, the hair, the cars, the slang, the music or whatever. Variety is the thing - You can watch THE ROAD or PRECIOUS and then drop back to watch 100 RIFLES or CHARADE or THE BIRDS or DEATH WISH.

You are correct about that because I have always felt a variety would help keep things interesting for todays generation. I even tried to teach my little sister this who is 16 years younger than me but she does not like any of the things that I watch. When she was younger she would love The Three Stooges, wrestling, or anything else that I watch. See so todays youth are missing out on the fun. I would rather have a open mind to things than a closed mind to be honest with you.

So stipulated, Your Honor! If I had to live on a steady diet of the CGI Fests that pass for entertainment lately,
I don't know what I would do.

It is fine and dandy how advance things have gotten technologically but still I feel sorry for todays youths because they do not know what a classic film is unless for some reason a teacher or instructor in college shows them a film or more than one film in class.

I don't mind CGI at all when it's used well and sparingly(TITANIC or THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON or WAR OF THE WORLDS for example) but it's usually so overblown that it gives a sort of sterile, airless quality to an otherwise halfway decent effort. Someone younger might find it corny or boring but it's an entirely different feeling to know that EL CID's battle scenes are accomplished with real people, real horses and real armaments on an actual physical location...not green screen, not magically duplicated fighters (ala THE PATRIOT). And we haven't even mentioned the difference between seeing a film in a theatre on a big juicy screen with a good sound system vs. seeing a dinky image with interruptions at home (which is fine if it's the only choice).

I know exactly what you mean about the CGI effects if they are used in the right places and time. Yes it does ruin the quality to the film I hate to say it. Yes I do understand your point about this and you are correct about it as well. I would rather watch it on a big screen and good sound system than a dinky image with interruptions at hime. I would not complain but either way I am happy about it.

Saw this movie in the theatre when new (I'm 43, guess I would have been about 15 then). I recall liking the music a lot back then, and in fact, I still do (very updeat and catchy). I guess its a matter of taste, but then I grew up in the 70s. The theme music was by Bill Conti, famous for the Rocky soundtrack, among others. The music over the opening credits was purely instrumental, and a version with lyrics (Sung by Dan Seals) plays over the end credits. (England) Dan Seals had a number of hits with John Ford Coley back in the 70s/early 80s, and his brother (I think) was in Seals and Crofts (similar music that I suppose could be construed as "cheesy"). Again, its a matter of taste. And the times.

I liked the music back then and did not have any problems with it at all!

Yep...another great must-see movie is In Cold Blood, and of course it was the 60's.

Carbon Copy is a gem...I just except the music in it and the movie makes up for it.

This movie is on right now ..just on the tv behind me as I surf the net..the music was pi$$ing me off so bad I had to look at the title JUST so I could come on here and complain! Makes me wanna kill something!!!

reply

Most movies from the '80s had cheesy music.

"The Dark Knight" - #1 CBM, "Iron Man" - #2 CBM

Especially in early 80's movies.
