Though Dated...Still....

CC still has ample juice left !

-may appear dated,pc violator, old stereotypes depicted, yet this flic has these

...Qualities :

-warmth displayed by both Segal & Denzel

-Denzel's debut foreshadows an acting ability which underlies a bit of subtlety

-clever little script which has jabs in it and that reflect satire at a certain level

-Segal as a straight man

-some fertile character acting on the part of Warden,Martin and St.James

-the Rich always make good targets when it comes to Hypocrisy !

I concur! I have always loved this movie, but hadn't seen it in years. With the exception of the very dated soundtrack, I feel it holds up fairly well.

This movie is where I first fell in deep "smit" with Denzel! Also, I thought SSJ played her part so well, I disliked and pitied her character intensely.

And for those who are hypercritical, lighten up! It's a movie, not a Bill Shakespeare play! Also, as the mother of a bi-racial child, I'm telling you, the perspective of "San Marino" hasn't changed that much - I hear them talkin', and I am personally "acquainted" with a lot of "Mary Anns."

They should have "re-thunk" that atrocious soundtrack though; I distinctly remember disliking that type of music in the '80s, and it hasn't become better with age.

It is indeed a likable(luvable)flicker !

As a satire it works well and hits the target and is funny to boot.

The music is actually more dated than the film, and it had some offensive, sexist jokes, but it's actually a pretty good satire of the racism of stuck-up,entitled rich white folks and their superior attitudes toward anyone that isn't like them. I always used to like seeing the always likable (and funny) George Segal in anything, and it was also cool to see Denzel in his first real significant starring role (he's fun as hell to watch and real smooth & charismatic---even back then it was obvious that he had some star potential.) And the satire was pointed & dead on target----I enjoyed it. One of director Michael Schultz's better films, even though it's pretty much been forgotten & underrated.

I agree, this is s great movie! I love Denzel, and I've followed his career since St. Elsewhere. I wasn't aware of his range until "A Soldier's Stor
