A Movie that People Love to Dismiss

I'm surprised about the low ratings and poor reviews. It's not that bad.
Allmovie Guide calls it overcooked melodrama but I would say that e.g. Shakespeare's Hamlet is much more melodramatic and overcooked.
The story always made sense and kept me involved without touching too much.
I always like Keach and Welles and the score is from the great Ennio Morricone.

Whilst I may be influenced by having first watched this movie as a teenage lad I too am surprised by the poor reviews. I think it's a pretty good little film, would like to see it again soon as I've not seen it for a dacade.

I liked it :-)

"It tickles!"

It's a fine movie. Pretty average, but eminently watchable. Nothing about it stands out as great, but it easily stands far above half the drivel released each year in every area of its production.
