In order to make a successful remake of this movie. Joe Braxton (Richard Pryor) should be played by someone who is still raw, but not too raw. Cat Williams is also a thought...but I think Mike Epps could play the role exceptionally. As far as Cicely Tyson's role...Kimberly Elise would play that role exceptionally...and it's also interesting Kimberly Elise stated Cicely Tyson is her role model. And also, both of these actors kinda look like the original actors who played the role...Go figure?!

He's basically a doupleganger of Pryor as mudbone, so that could do the trick. I don'tthink you have to have a twin of Cicely so I'd see the likable Loretta Devine filling in nicely and the chemistry between the 2 would be palpable just like the original.

I really like your choice of Mike Epps for an updated Joe Braxton. Not 100% sure about the woman's role. Not familiar with the actress's work. Tisha Campbell-Martin may be good, but might be a little over the top. Now I'm really gonna kick myself in the butt because I can't think of the actress's name, but she played Martin Lawrence's love interest in the Big Momma films, and Ice Cube's in, Are we there yet.

If it weren't for such an age gap, I'd suggest Whoopi Goldberg.
