Eeire how many fire refernces are in this film

Knowing that Richard Pryor had his accident during the production of this film made every fire reference a bit weird. Maybe I was just too aware of it, but seeing Richard put the buring cap on his head, burning his fingers on the cigar he was hiding in his robe, or his line to Cicely Tyson near the end "that sets me on fire" were just odd. I thought the film was ok, but more of a warmup to "Moving", another family comedy he did. I thought "Moving" was a better film, with the same kind of family sweetness.

moving was terrible.

i didnt realize his fire thing was during the production of this tho... it is..odd

I thought "Moving" was silly fun.

Seeing as a good number of scenes were shot after Pryor's "accident", I'm guessing they put those references in on purpose, sort of as a joke.

But I could be wrong...

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Moving is one of his better movies, love that one. Great show.

I thought there were a lot of references too (at least 3 or 4... ). Knowing Pryor's personality, it wouldn't surprise me if he had them added to the script after his return, just to gently self-mock.

Just finished watching this tonight - love NF stream - and I thinks it's closer to a dozen references, if not more. One of the kid is a pyromaniac who is always playing with matches - starts the hay on fire, Pryor's hat catches on fire, Cicely Tyson starts a fire in an old Franklin stove. Considering Pryor's burn injuries at the time, eerie is the word for it.

As rough as this movie is, it doesn't seem to have been that tightly scripted, as rough as Pryor's character is, this is still funnier than 90% of anything produced today. Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison 'fun' factory couldn't dream of coming anywhere near it, and it's nowhere near Pryor's best.

I always loved that scene and that line between Richard Pryor and Cicely Tyson, but I just realized how it could have a double meaning now :/ . Still an enjoyable movie!
