Dreams are my reality - Was it a hit in your countries ?

Couldn't believe it had worked so well in the world according to the DVD.

I had not heard the song until I saw the movie, and actually I haven't heard it since then, either! I'm American btw.

Crom laughs at your Four Winds!

reply

I'm French.
The song became a hit after the movie, actually.

Monsters will take over the city when i'll let them.

reply

Haven't seen the movie but Reality is still a big hit in Taiwan! Wrote to Richard Sanderson and told him that!

It was a monster hit in the Philippines in early 80's. There is a plan to revive the song. :)

reply

Yes,it was one of the biggest hit in 80's here in Japan.
Also, Sophie Marceau was the most popular foreign actress among teens.
She was on the covers of every teen magazines and movie magazines.
It was huge. But, I never knew that it was also a big hit in other asian countries.
I think asians love this kind of romantic europian-style love song.

It was loved in Italy, I do not think people know about it in Greece ...

''Is there noone among them you could trust? No man of integrity?''
-''Not that I know of''

reply

It was a hit in Germany and it is still well-known, since the movie is still shown on TV from time to time.

reply

My dad saw it in Japan when he was in his 20s. then he traveled europe and came to america and was like, "aww, I miss that."
so we watched it about a week ago.

reply

In Korea, everybody knows the song. It was a big hit, and Sophie Marceau was one of the most popular actrices in 80s.

reply

Also a smash in the 80s in Hungary. The same with the Cook da Books "Your eyes.." song from the sequel. Re-runs of the movies still appear on TV from time to time, so literally generations have grown up on it and loved it. And Sophie Marceau?! OMG, we've had the most serious major crush on her ever since :)))

reply

Yes, it's one of the big hit in Hong Kong in 80-90 and still now.
Definitely, it's one of the top 5 DJ's favourite that ever played on Radio station when I was young, now I'm 30ish. It's one of the most requested song in every "Love Song" CD compilation ever. Although I didn't see the movie when it was first released in the 80. "Your Eyes" from La Boum II is also another big hit.

reply

In America when we watched this is French class everyone hated it...

Sorry.

Anyone know why a French movie will have an English song as the theme song?
Love the song and Sophie Marceau was such a pretty young girl back then.

reply

Well probably because they wanted to sell it abroad, even if i'm sure they didn't expect such a success.
Every decision makers think that only english spoken songs can be hits worldwide, but i don't agree at all.
I listen to songs in italian, german even japanese and when the melody is good, it's a potential hit no matter the language.
This song though, even if in english, was made for the film, therefore it fits the movie perfectly.

reply

...Why not?!!

reply

French people will often listen to English-language music. It's not unusual.

I watched this movie in (at the time) a little known third world country (Myanmar/Burma) and EVERYONE (teenagers mainly) were in LOVE with the song. THis song was even copied in burmese and became a big hit in the country too... playing at all the tea shops, etc, etc.

I didn't understand a word of english yet LOVED the tune of this song and phonetically learned to sing this song, lol.
