Reminds me of another movie.

Does Das Boot remind anybody of another movie? I saw Das Boot for the first time around January I think, that's when I should have posted this, now I can't remember what movie it reminded me of and I don't want to see a three hour movie again just to remember something. It's not All Quiet On the Western Front at least I don't think it is, I honestly don't even remember if this is the movie that reminded me of another movie, I looked through my movie history and this is the only movie that makes sense.

"Stalingrad" (1993)? German, WW2, non-heroic, depressing ending.

Though not a navy film, it must be Stalingrad (Germany '93). Some of the same actors too.

Have you seen U-571? I watched that a couple of months before watching Das Boot. Although it's supposed to be two different films, in my opinion, a lot of the storyline from U-571 seems to be copied from Das boot.

A good looking depressed guy smoking a cigarette is not a movie!

I know what you mean.
Like in Das Boot when the Americans tried to capture the U-Boat, or in U-571 when they slipped through the Strait of Gibralter.

Other than both set during the Battle of the Atlantic and involving U-boats... the two films have NOTHING in common as far as storyline goes.

Nothing.

I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!
