It should be atleast a 9.0 or higher.
I once watched the godfather and I can tell. A movie from 1981 with this kind quality, visuals, acting, storyline, drama, and tons more gets an 8.4 rating.
I honestly would switch the Dark knight for this film. This movie will always be one of the best films i've ever seen. 100/10.

That's why i gave both Ghostbusters and Das Boot a 10. Ofcourse, Das Boot is the better film. But both movies have given me hours of entertainment (for different reasons of course).

Agreed, The godfather was confusing and boring the first time. Now I think it's a masterpiece. But Das Boot is not confusing or boring the first time, and is a masterpiece all the way. And thus Das Boot>The Godfather. But that's just me you know.

I try to see as much classics and masterpieces as i can, but sometimes, i like to watch a movie like 'Commando' for instance, and enjoy the hell out of it!

This movie is just beyond epic.
I don't think comparing Godfather and Das Boot gets us anywhere. They aren't comparable.
Versions are what make Das Boot difficult to judge. I first saw Das Boot as a mini-series, and to be honest it was quite hard to watch. The quality that we all see now on Blu Ray was not there at all. The dub work was absolutely horrendous. The min was 5 hours long. That was 1984. About a year later I was able to see it on VHS that was similar but about 20 minutes shorter than what came out in 1981 in theaters. Again the picture quality was bad. This was dubbed as well and just as bad. I don't think Das Boot reached its full potential until it was released on DVD. The ability to watch different version and to watch is un-dubbed with subtitles and much better sound and picture. I saw Das Boot in a theater as a replay in its original theatrical release and I was actually disappointed. The Directors Cut is far superior in every way.

If you check out the rating for the mini series, then it does have a higher rating than the movie: 9.0
But you do then also get to know the characters a lot more in that one in each of the episodes.
You know what's a joke? People like you creating threads like these. They are on every film. Either the rating is too low for their precious film, or it's too high, because people want to be smartasses and make their statement about how the movie doesn't deserve a certain rating.
Jeez just get on with it, it's the most mainstream rating site available. Thankfully, opinions vary.
Agreed. Das Boot is the best German movie and one of the best movies ever created.
If there are any movies worth 10 rating, this is one of them.
I dont get how anyone could get any enjoyment from watching people in a submarine beeing bored to death. 4 hours of bore. You most be fun people to hang out with....
