Assasination/conspi racy=macguffin?

Is it just me, or does the whole situation with the senator seem like a
macguffin? I don't remember any explanation as to why he was killed exactly, but it's been awhile since I've seen this movie. any one else wanna answer/add anything?

reply

No, not at all. They were trying to get the governor out of the POTUS race, and things got out of hand and he got killed. It's like the central part of the plot - about as far from a macguffin as it can be.

reply

Yes, it is. The characters care about it, but we do not. Nothing about the political consequences are ever addressed again and the ending has zero to do with McRyan or the apprehension of the perpetrators.
