Did the mom know that the girl killed those people in the end. Is that why she made them move. Or was there another reason.

reply

I don't think so. I think Debbie either said that she was forced into the killings or just pinned the blame on the boys and claimed she was an innocent bystander.

reply

Actually, i believe so. Because remember when they're in the car, and she says the two boys killed people and they were going to blame it on her? Her moms says to her "Tell me what really happened?" and the girls goes "well...". They never say it she does, but it's implied.

I think because the mom had lost her husband and daughter, that she felt she couldn't lose her other child as well, so she left instead of turning in her. that is why, at the very end, she reminds Debbie of what her new name is.

Well every step of the way the little girl made the mom believe she never did anything bad to anybody. The sister caught her red handed with the "newspaper clippings" book and the little girl even said it was her property to the sister.
But the girl told the mom it was one of the boys.

By the way the mother never asked the girl "What REALLY happened". She just asked "what happened". So she thought the daughter would be blamed just because she was always with the boys, not because she thought she really did it.
The mom was just in denial.

Unless the mom actually saw her kid killing someone she'd never believe it.
But I'm betting the mom would eventually find out first hand!!!

**SPOILER ALERT**

Yeah, she definitely knew toward the end. I would conjecture that there had been red flags for months that her daughter was evil and the reality that she was completely crystallized that night.

Deep down, I think she knew. She just didn’t want to believe it. No mother is really THAT stupid.

reply

I think the mum did know because right at the end of the film, the girl says to her "I'll be a good girl from now". So the mum must have known she's been 'bad' and said something to the girl, for the girl to say she'll be good now.

She was in denial.

reply

Yeah, the mom knew. That's the entire point of the end sequence: the mother is distraught after losing so much so she takes her daughter on the run to get new identities. And as we see, the daughter won't stop the killing, the only thing that will happen is that the mother is giving the daughter another opportunity to do so.

It's a pretty effective ending, honestly.

I think she knew. I found the ending to be realistic because it seems like something that would really happen. I sort of felt that while she was sad about the awful things her daughter did, she still loved her and so was protective over her. When you truly love someone, you don't turn your back on them no matter what. So I felt that's the reason she covered for her daughter and let her get away with it.
