It was Ok

Despit the bad acting, the poor quality, and the occasional scene where the microphone was hanging from the top of the screen, the movie wasn't bad. It was an orignal idea, and it had some very creative scenes. Compared to a lot of the 80's horror movies this one was one of the first and probably one of the more orignal, it didn't have a group of stupid teenagers stranded somewhere with a killer on the loose. I'd give it a 7/10!

I agree, unique in it's day.

Ditto, I liked it's sense of humor too, it didn't take itself too seriously. Burt Young and John Saxon are funny as hell, especially when Saxon rips the city counsolers at the meeting and when the little kids throw the hotdog at Young, yelling "We found it! We found the guy's weeny!"

Heck, I might as well promote my website - andybob.com

I haven't seen this movie since I was a young 'un... I miss it... Funny how some things stay with you into adulthood... Has anyone seen it on TV at all?

And your worst enemy.
Same difference!"

I saw it on TV maybe in the late 80's/early 90's, I have to say it sure was different from a lot of other horror movies at the time.

Agreed. I remember seeing it also as a kid, and it makes me feel nostalgic about it too :).
The special effects were cool in my opinion. (Except for Terminator series, I HATE CGG!!!)

And if anyone thinks there is nothing scary about the thought of being sucked into the sand....think about that the next time you walk across the sand at the beach, and feel that slight "sink" under your feet :).

I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid, and I would love to see it again. Is it available on DVD?

reply

i always thought that it was a load of crap. just like those worms in Tremors. what a total load of sh*te

lets get into character.

Yeah, the old lady and the little dog getting sucked under the sand is Blood Beach.

Thank you :)

Keanu was my first choice, but he was'nt available on my wedding day

reply

Yeah, I found it decent, if a little sluggish. But it's worthwhile for its nice sense of witty humour and fun support roles by Saxon and Young.

A sequel would have been interesting.

I quite enjoyed "Blood Beach;" it has this endearingly clunky sincerity to it which I found to be very engaging and entertaining. Moreover, both John Saxon and Burt Young grouch it up delightfully as the cops trying to solve the baffling murders. The scene where a nasty would-be rapist gets castrated by the monster is a definite highlight. I likewise dug the funky, moody jazz score and strangely fuzzy soft-focus photography. It's no classic, but it's nonethless a good deal of cheerfully cheap'n'cheesy early 80's horror fun. I give it an 8 myself.

I love this movie (especially the ending)

I give it a 6/10. Good concept, cheesy and slow-paced execution, a few decent scares.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
