Arthur 2... a "guilty" pleasure and a very decent sequel!!

Have to admit that for years I kept the fact that I loved "Arthur 2" to myself as it wasn't a film that garnered much love or respect, but I couldn't give a flying fig by this stage and am happy to say I think it's one of the better sequel's Hollywood has ever produced.

I like the first "Arthur", but actually prefer the sequel which has a genuine lightheartedness, sweetness and charm I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate. The film was poorly recieved both critically and box-office-wise on its initial release (which I largely blame on it being a few years too late - the sequel is set 4 years after the first but came out 7-8 years later), however I am glad to see it has and is gaining an appreciative fanbase and audience in the subsequent years and decades.

As sequels go, this is very decent and respectful to its original and a lot of fun in the process and in its own right PLUS John Gielgud's return as Hobson (rather than being a gimmick as might first be percieved) is actually such a tender and poignant moment in the franchise/story... with him returning to point(kick) Arthur in to the right direction in his life.

Lots of love for "Arthur 2"!!

It has its moments but overall I don’t care for its sentimentality, especially since the laughs are few and far between.

Looks like most agree Arthur 2 is better than the Arthur remake!

As unnecessary as it was, the Arthur remake, I actually didn’t hate it. I’d even go so far as to say I prefer it to Arthur 2, but that’s not saying much.

yep its better than its reputation

Sorry, just had to chime in here.

I thought Arthur 2 was awful and a complete embarrassment following the original (awesome) film.

I felt both Dudley Moore and John Gielgud should have been slapped for allowing themselves to appear in it, especially considering how incredible their performances were in Arthur.

Just my $0.02.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

I agree. Arthur 2 is the worst sequel I've ever seen.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

i do't think it is as funny as the first one, though it has its moments. it's not too bad as sequels go.

reply

I like it too. No qualms with it. The Bar Scene is classic.

reply

It's watchable but I didn't laugh once.

I hate any sequel that totally undoes the plot of the original film as it's own plot. The whole payoff at the end of Arthur is undone by the unfortunate sequel.
