How about bringing this to DVD someone?

Hey I don't know who owns the rights to this terrific sword & sorcery film, but how about whomever it is bringing it to DVD? I remember seeing this film when it aired on television originally and I thought it was really good. I beleive it was a pilot for a proposed series that never flew. Still, by itself it is still one of the better s&s films around. Lane Caudell was a strong and handsome lead. Also there are some other people in the film that went on to become quite well known in their own right including legendary actor George Kennedy ("Airport" films and later "Dallas")and Richard Moll (Bull on "Night Court"), Priscilla Pointer (Rebecca Barnes Wentworth on "Dallas"), Chao Li Chi ("Falcon Crest") and Kabir Bedi (Prince Omar Rashid on "The Bold and the Beautiful"). I haven't seen the film in years but would definitely buy it if it came to DVD. How about it?

I want this film. I missed it the first time around. I knew somehow that there never were "five movies this summer". That's all.

After reading the reviews it sounds like I didn't miss anything.

The advertisements for this TV movie said "There will be five movies this summer!" while showing various cool-looking heroes running about the land. Didn't happen. Didn't actually catch this one.

I agree. I'd like to see it/have it on DVD. I have a VHS copy of it, but I don’t like to view it too much because I don’t want to wear it out. (see my review at IMDB for what I think of this flick). I'd like to see someone get on the ball here about this going to dvd. With all the other medieval fantasy films released to dvd these days (some very unworthy), I see no reason for Universal (who made it) not to give put it out. I mean, even Hawk the Slayer is on dvd now! Come on! THE ARCHER is one of the last holdouts. I don’t know if online petitions work much, but that's a possibility. Writing Universal is another. I’ve even recently seen dvd copies on ebay, but that becomes a problem for some at times due to the dvd r PLUS and dvd r MINUS differences. It also needs to be remastered. With all the Lord of the Rings hype these days, I can see no better time to release the Archer on dvd. If RED SONJA can come to dvd (as it has recently) then RELEASE THE ARCHER!!!

Absolutely this should be on DVD by now. It's a great film and it's a real tragedy that the other films in the Archer series were never made. I remember as a kid how much I was looking forward to seeing them and how heartbroken I was that they never appeared.

I wonder if those scripts were ever written? If so I'd love to see them.

I'd love to see where the rest of this story was going as well. Alas, the writer and director, Nicholas Corea (a decorated Vietnam vet) passed away of pancreatic cancer on January 17, 1999. The only person I can think of who might even have a clue as to where this series could have gone is his wife Phenelupe Rosette Corea, who as far as I know is still living. Who knows how to get in touch with her though. Perhpas in the future if enough people make enough noise about this movie then maybe we will see an official release. Till then, we will have to settle with used vhs tapes. I'd love to see a nice remastered version with some special features. But at the least, a nice remastered version.

In Germany, where I live, you can't even get it on vhs anymore. Please, please, release this great film on dvd.

Six years later and I just ordered the german DVD on Amazon. :)
