Excellent but simplistic

The Amateur is about an amateur geek in the CIA exacting revenge for the execution of his girlfriend in an embassy hostage situation.

The protagonist infiltrates cold-war Czechoslovakia and although he does make amateurish moves, eventually carefully gets his planned revenge.


I like the excellent thrilling direction. The first minutes of the film are tense and shocking followed by a Jason Bourne style plot leading to a thrilling finale with a surprise ending that I didn't expect.

Overall, there were plenty of loopholes and sillyness but I definitely enjoyed the movie overall.
