Dear Folks,
I must proclaim this film to be a GENE HACKMAN FILM!!!
While Ms. Streisand is his eventual leading lady in this film...
she is more along for the ride(however she gives a good performance).
Gene Hackman is the true star of this film and the strongest,truest(and often funniest) comments come from him.
See All Night Long(1981)for Gene Hackman's performance as a family man going through a midlife crisis,a new job in a drugstore(with a fair amount of weirdo customers) and realization that he needs to do in life what will be best for himself.It's when he becomes an inventor that the weight of the world seems to be lifted from his back.Finally he takes Ms.Streisand away from her rotten husband(wonderfully played by Kevin Dobson) and they live happily ever after.
All Night Long(1981) is a gentle comedy that shows Gene Hackman at his best.
