Full-length Region 2 DVD!

Elem Klimov's great film became available in autumn, 2005 in a carefullly realized 2-disc DVD through the Russian Cinema Council, Ruscico. It's available through them and through the Swedish company Njutafilms (I don't know if there are other European distributors of this reel, from some web searching I did there doesn't seem to be any major ones). I'm watching it right now; brief features (as you can't update the dvd details as a private user of imdb)

Great anamorphic transfer 2.35:1 (PAL) crystal clear colour and transfer of the occasional b/w footage

Region 2

Dolby Surround Sound 5.1, original dialogue in Russian, or dubbing in English or French; subtitles in Russian, Japanese, Hebrew and most Western European languages

full length 1985 version 152 minutes!

Actors' biographies, interviews with Petrenko and with production designer Abdusalamov

Documentary clips: the 300 year jubilee of the Romanov dynasty in 1913 (archive film, scenes from a pageant reenacting the history of the Dynasty) and the burial of the remains of the murdered Czar family in St Petersburg in 1997
