What the hell is going on?

Urusei Yatsura was one of the first anime I've seen and it's awesome. However when I first saw it all I had access too was a video of the first few episodes.

More recently I met some people with Excel Saga and Guu watched it all and like it. I also like The Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, Futurama, Ren & Stimpy, Poe town, Invader Zim and South Park. Recently I've been about to get 150+ of the episodes and a few movies of Japanese friends.

Urusei Yatsura is not just pointless inexplicable weirdness to the extent of more recent anime in which is seems like a competition of either who can be most wacky or gory. Despite being decades old this cartoon is still very enjoyable and has depth. If you like western arguably mature cartoons like the ones listed above but feel like something different but the same I strongly suggest this. Allot of people forget that anime really is just cartoon so this is not just for people who like anime. If you like mature western cartoons give this a try. UY is essentially the Simpsons of the East, and somewhat better.
