Will the owners of this film PLEASE STAND UP???

Have you heard of "DVD," Mr. or Mrs. Owner of this film?

Been waiting for one since DVD's became the new source of "home entertainment."
Been watching this thread longer than I care to admit.

SOMEONE GROW SOME 'NADS AND JUST GET THE THING PRESSED ONTO DVD. This excuse of "not knowing who owns the rights" can be solved immediately when someone makes a few dollars/pounds - the bottom-feeding shysters will be out in a heartbeat... THEN we will find out who "owns" the rights and we can get a DVD of this.

Wish there was a "LIKE" button.....

I've been waiting for years. (Bypass the DVD and go straight to Blu-Ray though.)

Well said BrerRabid
It amazes me when I see some of the 'claptrap' films etc which ARE released on DVD yet a Masterpiece like A Town Like Alice isn't.
It even won a BBC Award (can't remember what for) yet they're not interested in trying to find out who owns the rights.

Thank you Nanna-P

It was time for my biennial check of this thread to see if this wonderful adaptation has been yet put on a little plastic disc (or actually two for this series)... still no disc! GRRRRRR!!!!

Maybe what we could do is get a group of people together and start tweeting, facebooking, emailing and usenet posting that we (the group) will be making VERY ILLEGAL bootleg DVDs from a good tape copy (which I actually have) and will sell them to any seekers for the price of... hmmm... maybe $50.00 a copy, and have a specific release/availability date for the bootleg. That should smoke out the owners and their pet snakes from the legal department. Heck, we might even get the attention of the FBI!!! It ain't no crime 'til the first copy is burnt! ...And even the FBI would have to find the actual owners for them to be victims of a crime.

Only problem... I am not a groupie in the Twitter sense, the Facebook sense, but I am a heck of an email and usenet type.

Better ideas out there? Don Quixote at yer service! No windmill is too big to tilt!

Hi BrerRabid

I am not a Twitter Groupie either - can't see the point of it but I joined specifically to 'tweet' regarding this. I post at least once a day & have done so for the last 3 months or so, in the hopes it'll catch someone's attention somewhere.

As for E.Mails, I've mailed PBS, 7Network, The Australian Film Commission to name just a few - I even mailed Bryan Brown's Agent!!!! All to no avail.

I recently posted a request on IMDB on the 80's Tv thread & received a reply from a person who also has a VHS copy. This person gave me the Production Co & Distributor names & I am in the process of trying to track them down at the moment.

I'm trying anything I can think of to raise the profile but I'm running out of ideas.

I'll set a 'group' up on Facebook today - please look for it & join.

Hi Dan.Adams
Are these ANOTHER set of pirate copies of the original VHS version? The market is flooded with them! I would MUCH prefer a LEGAL copy & won't buy these pirate copies on principal, hence the search for the copyright owner.

reply

Nanna, Pirated from who? Of course anyone would prefer a new remastered DVD edition, but If the owners of the copyright (if they exist) have no interest in making it available, these companies perform a valuable service. I have gotten several obscure films that I had yearned and waited for to no avail. If someone does find and obtain the copyright I will be the first in line for that version as well (hopefully with lots of extras).

Since my last post, I have discovered that the rights to this Mini Series belong to the Producer Henry Crawford but unfortunately, he has no plans to release it on DVD.
In my book that decision has to be respected, whatever his reasons for this decision.
Unfortunately for him, he's losing a great deal of money in leaving the sales market open to Pirated copies of the VHS version. 😢

reply

Yes, his loss. My DVD is on it's way as a placeholder until such time as he decides to act. If he ever releases it, I will buy that too, especially if it has any extras. I can't imagine a good reason that he would not share this beloved film with the it's devotees, and I apologize in advance if it is a justifiable reason. However, in the absence of any reasonable explanation, I find it difficult to reward the behavior by abiding by his seemingly stingy behavior. I may be being unfair, but I find it hard to believe he can't find a distributor. Maybe they want too much money. My hat is truly off to you though!

I have gotten several beloved but obscure movies from this company, and I second your commendation for this company.
