Maybe there will be a DVD release. Maybe. Legal eagles are researching.

I presume that because your option on the novel was for only 20 years, this means that you have no rights to reproduce the mini-series?

“I recently received legal advice that we own the copyright of the mini-series, and that we can release it. But I’m waiting to get some paperwork examined forensically to know whether that’s the story or not. I own the masters of the series. They’re in good condition. In fact, I’ve been talking to a distributor, who’s very keen to release it. There’s a lot of people who want to see it. It would be a popular series.” (from https://filmink.com.au/2016/an-epic-journey-the-making-of-a-town-like-alice-part-3/)

This quote is from a very interesting interview in three parts with the producer of the series, Henry Crawford. It was published over the last three weeks on filmink.com.au.

Hi LookinGood
I've just discovered your post.
Do you know if there are any developments regarding the DVD release?
Kind Regards

Hi Nanna, no, I am sorry, no news so far. I came across the interview by pure chance when searching for anything about the 1981 TV series. I bought a pretty cheap single LP VHS of it in the summer, to see if it was worth hunting down a decent copy. I'd happily pay again for a decent DVD, especially since my VHS recorder is slowly dying now.

I've 'lobbied' various people & organisations over the years for the series to be released on DVD to no avail.
These include 7 Network, Victorian Film, Mariner Film, PBS, Masterpiece & BBC but none knew who owned the rights. I even contacted Bryan Brown's agent!!!!
I refuse to buy a pirate copy on principal. I hope it's released soon.
