The boy Who Lost His Laugh.

Wow any 20-something or 30-something Brits remember this gem? Badly dubbed tale of the Ayrian boy who sold his laugh to a rich and powerful german businessman-type? Lots of Disney-esque escapades featuring clumbsy, stupid adults being out-witted by plucky, smiley children. Good family fun. Except for the ending. Boy gets laugh back and annexes Poland in retaliation. Millions killed as German war-machine is mobilised once more. Haimat! Haimat! Erm, sorry. Can't help myself sometime. British y'know. Xenophobia is my birthright...

I had been talking to my friends about this show over the last couple of years, and they didnt remember it, and didnt believe me because it sounded so rubbish. They said the same when i told them that Pele was doing adverts about erectile disfunction in an empty stadium with a plastic mac, that showed them!

I dont remember too much about this series save for the fact that the dubbing was appalling, and that any dubbed laughter always sounds really sinister and inappropriate. Was the laugh sold, I thought that the businessman had stolen it from the kid. And how do you steal a laugh? (David Baddiel should know, he's been stealing laughs for crap gags for years).

Funny thing is i dont remember this being German, i always thought it was south american, because of all the dodgy facial hair and uber-tans! I would love to see this again, because I think I was around 7 or 8 when I saw it, and it was good and bad at the same time!

Marge, is Lisa at Camp Granada?
