SO annoying (spoiler)

This was the one where the boy sold his laugh to an evil advertising chap who (IIRC) planned to do something evil with it such as sell something or take over the world. IIRC, he lived in a castle.

In return for the laugh, he promised Tim he could win whatever bet he fancied. That's right, isn't it? So he eventually gets tired of winning everything and tries to get his laugh back. Cue episode after episode of adventure, only for his sidekick to say what the auidence had been thinking for months:

"I bet you can't get your laugh back".

Now. Why would a evil genius make that bargain? And how come it took SO LONG for the hero to realise that that bet would work.

I remember this now and I remember how annoyed I got with this as a kid.

Still, the dubbing was amazing.

If I remember this correctly, I think the explanation (given in the book at least) was, that he couldn`t have made that bet before, because he wasn`t allowed to tell anyone that he had lost his laugh in the first place, or he would have lost it forever. So he could only bet this with someone who knew without him having told it. Sorry you got annoyed, I always loved the series.

When I rewatched it, I thought a better bet would've been "I bet my father never died in that plane crash" (similar to the resolution of "Witchmaster") since that would negate the basis of the contract *and* give him his father back.
