Tenko Reunion query

Much as I love The Reunion episode a comment by Maggie drives me nuts every time I watch it.

When Dorothy meets up with Maggie and suggests she comes to Singapore and uses Joss's bequest of £1,000 to do so, Maggie says she's used that and "Jake's stamp money" just living. How?

Surely this is unlikely given the inexpensive standard of living between 1945-50 and lack of consumer goods with so many items or foodstuffs still rationed.

By her own inference her home is not impressive, probably council stock. She hankers after "a lawn of any size at Dominica's and it has obviously been against her "left-wing principles" to buy private accommodation though she surely would have been able to do so with the two sums given to her.

Very good points. £1,000 would be big money back in the late 1940s. Maggie has clearly not had an extravagant life. The house is probably rented.

One of Tenko's very few plot holes?!

Maggie annoys me,she's just a Blanche replacement, not the actor's fault but find Maggie annoying.

Also in the last episode of the series,Maggie says they should toast Shinya, she never even know him, obviously that line was meant for Dorothy but she was only in half of series 3.

Great series though, the first two series my favourites,as we had Blanche and Rose.

I'd never thought about Maggie toasting Shinya, but you're right.

Mind you, Maggie and Dot were close, so Maggie is probably thinking of Shinya on Dot's behalf, knowing how close Dot and Shinya had become even though Maggie and Shinya never actually met.

If memory serves, Maggie is very cautious about naming Shinya when they are reminiscing about those they have lost. Maggie soudns as if she is unsure whetehr or not to name Shinya here as she doesn;t know what people's reaction will be.
