Staking in the sun

Does anyone know how long it took in real life to kill someone by having them staked in the sun? The trader's wife Lia appeared to die after one day, but Debbie lasted a few days, and Blanche appeared to last for at least a week - and they both went on to make full recoveries.

It's a while since I saw it, but was Blanche taken into the punishment hut overnight and only staked out in the daytime?

I do remember thinking it didn't really add up, when I last watched it.

The inside of the punishment hut was always a mystery. Was it just that it was metal (therefore very hot) and very unsanitary?

In the novelization she is taken into the punishment room at night, but it's not very clear if this happens in the telly series.
I don't know how far fetched it is that someone could be out in the sun without water for at least seven days and still live. Someone mentioned in another thread that the native Malaysian trader's wife died in what seemed hours while European Blanche lasted out about nine days.

Yeah, but she was from the East End!

It does show her briefly in a metal hut before being taken out to the stake.
