I was looking through all the upcoming releases on Amazon UK.

I saw they are releasing three things I want. Beethoven, 8 movies set (the dog,) Leverage the complete series AND The Smurfs, seasons 1 - 5! I did not know there were 9 seasons. I used to love the show as a kid. I had all the toys. I would assume they will release the other seasons in a set. So, if you have a region free DVD player, and like the Smurfs, check it out on Amazon UK. I believe that it is like, $56 and some change US.

Yes I saw that you guys have through season 5 now and I hope you get the rest! Here in the US only the first complete season was released. I got season 2 from the UK but I had to get seasons 3-5 from Australia and it was pricey! Its easier to order from Amazon UK. I did read somewhere that seasons 6-9 were never aired in the UK though so its possible you won't get them? I hope that's not the case. I will be keeping an eye on Amazon UK. :)

A lot of these shows have/had different distributors in other countries. So exactly which company in which country has the rights (and in some cases to which seasons) could very much be a problem.

In the US, it's more simple with them all being with WB domestically but the hold up at the moment clearly seems to be waiting for Sony to release the next theatrical movie so they can tie in market the releases.

This premise is also supported by the similar strategies holding up the next Popeye and Tarzan dvd releases.
