Urban Legend

When I was a girl there was an urban legend saying that the Smurfs' toys were diabolicals and killed children. Yesterday I saw Donnie Darko and I rememberd the smurfs and the u.l. I searched it in internet, and that u.l is (or was )popular in all Latinoamerica(spanish), but I didn't find it in english . Have you heard about it in other countries?

I had lots of Smurf toys when I was younger and I loved it. I didn't die from playing with it.

Yes! I remember my overly-religeous mother freaking out because of some stories that were floating around our church when we were kids. In one story, a Smurf figure (you remember the little ones? Like two inches tall?) floated off a shelf and accross the room in front of a terrified Christian child. No verification was ever found. Another story was that a little girl in a near-by congragation (who could never be named our tracked down) put her hand in her pocket and felt something bite her. her hand was bleeding when she pulled it out and all she had in her pocket was a Smurf doll!!! Oh no!! Save us from the Smurfs!!! Even as a kid I remember thinking how rediculous it all sounded. I have looked on the internet but have been unable to find anything on any of the Urban Ledgend websiets, but my brothers still remember it all as I do, so yeah, you are right. Burn the witch!!! :)

You guys are suck. Funny, but sick. :-)

(And for the record, my sister and I collected the little 2" plastic figures, and nothing funky ever happened to us.)

I had heard of the same thing but I heard about it through friends that had accidents with them. They could just be pulling my leg but I had one friend who got rid of her baby smurf doll because it grew teeth and bit her. I believed her when I was a kid but not realy now

You'll have nothing and like it!

In a show I watched a few years ago, a guy acted like he was freaking out because some diabolical smurfs toys were in his motel room.. And he just kept calling the maid so she could take the wicked toys out of his room. I guess he was reffering to that urban legend LOL. Hmm if only I could remember what show it was :-/
i think it was Jackass.. but I doubt i. anyways.

I heard the same legends but they revolved around Cabbage Patch Kids dolls attacking people and coming to life. Ha! I remember having to hide in a neighbor-girls room for a few minutes when her dad came home (strict family I suppose) and getting pretty freaked out sitting there alone with a few of her Cabbage Patch dolls staring at me. Haha! I made it out OK though. Makes more sense with the Smurfs though. That Papa Smurf and Gargamel were warlocks and hence: tools of Satan. That's what this Southern Baptist lady told me. Scaring kids like that over some nonsense is cruel.

I remember the Smurf urban legend when I was a kid. People said that Smurf toys would crawl up people's bodies and strangle them to death. Although I was sometimes easily scared as a kid, this was one story that didn't bother me. I'd had Smurf wallpaper, blankets and toys since I was three, and I figured if the story was true something would have happened to me already.

I collected the little figures as well...nothing ever happened to me either, I had them all....how funny...now what I have heard is that I guess the reason religious groups viewed them as evil is because I guess the Smurfs were thought to be Pagans, now I am in NO way saying Pagans are evil, however I can see some radical religious group having different views.
Also- let me point out that I don't agree with this, it was just something I heard - I think it is just a fun cartoon & that sometimes I think people look to far into things & almost seem to look for things in kids cartoons to slander.
It is nothing more than entertainment.

Jack: I love those moments.I like to wave at them as they pass by.

Ummm.... I said, "I remember the Smurf urban legend when I was a kid." I never said "girl" in my post at all. Even if I did--which I didn't--no, I am not still a girl. I'm a woman.

ahhh, but does anyone rem. or HAVE the Mattel/Hasbro rip-offs???(?apologies to the wrong co) Remember an oh-so brief stint of CLOWN toys? the spokesman shows them off, close-ups of the individual characters, wide shot again to see that he has a clown face now - the Clowns of Funnytown? maybe...but EVERYONE knows that C lowns are evil, so maybe t hat gave the Smu rfs the bum rap, maybe a CLOWN toy bit the little g irl...of cour se you would have to be dumb enough to own enough toys to be able to strangle you in your sleep... unless the toys get string and...hey, wait a second, my display case is empty... Wow. My brother grew up loving the Smurfs and while I was a little too old for them, I don't ever remember an Urban Legend involving them. Interesting.

I grew up in a ridiculously religious household. I was never allowed to watch The Smurfs. Supposedly, in one episode, Gargamel draws a pentagram on the ground and casts spells. I have never actually seen any proof of any such episode. It is discussed on a Christian video called Turmoil in the Toybox. You can view it on YOUtube. It is completely ridiculous. Has anyone seen this episode and where can I find it?

Actually that episode did happen. It was an episode where the Book of Spells comes awake and gives Gargamel wishes until the sun goes down.

"Oh great book of spells
on whose pages dwell
secrets no one tells
Awake for Gargamel."

I think a lot of these stories of smurf figures being evil came from Jehovah's Witnesses http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/118458/1/Gen-Xers-Who-remembers-when-Smurfs-were-Demonic
