A new Simon + Simon television movie?

I really enjoyed watching Adult Swim's 'The Greatest Event In Television History' where Adam Scott and Jon Hamm did a shot for shot recreation of the Simon & Simon opening credits sequence. It got me to thinking about what Rick and A.J. might be up to these days.

Just curious... would a new Simon & Simon television movie, that explored where the brother's lives were at today and involved them in a new and exciting case, be something you'd like to see? Or, is that a dumb idea and the franchise should be mercifully left alone to rest on its laurels?

reply

Of course it's a dumb idea.

Sick of you people suggesting these shows either should be remade or make a TV movie out of them.

reply

Thank you for your participation but I don't give a rat's ass what you're sick of.

There are bigger things in life to get worked up about, if you have the need to get worked up..You are calling each other names like children over a 30 year old TV series, instead of being grateful for the things that you both have, rather than focusing on the things that you don't have. What you think about for yourself, is what you actually bring about....

...queer.

It sounds like a good idea to me, but I would only want it done with Jameson & Gerald, and I don't think that's likely since Jameson seems to be through with Hollywood. I would not want to see any remake with anyone else. JMO

Given the trend for remakes, and the obvious success rate of a show that ran from 1981-9, I would think that a remake is almost certain to happen, or at least to be considered. The original actors are highly unlikely to be involved though. They might persuade Gerald McRaney to play a part, somewhere. A cameo if it were a film, for instance. Or he might choose not to bother, since it's extremely unlikely that Jameson Parker would come back.

Remakes can work. Don't write one off too completely! It's a question of doing it right though, which does mean involving the right people.

I beg to differ. I have yet to see a remake, whether on TV or film, which was anywhere near as good as the original. But hey that's JMO.

ive seen a few remakes do well hawaii 50 is one that been doing extremely well for like 5-6 years now.too many people online vocal minorities mainly who will moan to moan though doesnt matter what the movie or show is they will bitch like no other just for that attention they will get negative or positive it doesnt matter.

They already did a reunion movie back in the 90's. I'm still bummed that I missed it and that I haven't been able to locate a copy anywhere. I remember a friend telling me it took place in Seattle and that the Simons didn't pack guns at all which I thought was weird. Can anyone confirm that?

reply

Seattle, yes. The guns I don't remember, I'm afraid. I haven't seen it in years. I love the series, and the movie was a fun revisit back in the pre-DVD days, but not something I'd bother to watch again, frankly. I guess I didn't like how they'd split up the team!

They were retired from the P.I. business. A.J. was a lawyer and Rick was delivering a yacht to somebody in Seattle. It is available in parts on Youtube.

reply

Thanks! I was finally able to watch it. Not bad for a reunion movie.
