I have the Silas dvd's in German that I brought from Amazon.de three years ago. As much as I love watching them and try to make sense of what's going on by the images alone, I am still not 100% certain as to what is going on in the story for sure (I don't speak or understand much German).
So could anyone kindly remind me of the story please? Especially, why was Silas by himself, was he an orphan? I hope not!

let me try to spread out the Plot :
Silas is not an Orphan. The Circus People stole him from somebody, but the search for his real parents is not an issue throughout the whole Series.
It starts with Phillip, the Sword"swallower", forcing Silas to swallow the sword also, so the little boy runs off.
He gets to "Bartolin", the fat guy who owns the black horse at the beginning.
He wants Silas to work for him, but Silas just wants something to eat and drink. Bartolin bets Silas for the Horse that he wont be able to ride him for long. Silas wins, but Bartolin does not want to hand over the Animal, so again Silas takes off.
After that he is reaching the little town where he meets "Bein Godik", (Bein-Leg) the redheaded boy who becomes his best friend, and the furr wearing "Otterjäger".
Like always everybody believes Silas had stolen his black horse, so the take it away from him, and plan to ebay it.
His 2 new friends are working on gettin the horse back, and again Silas has to take off, followed by his friend Bein Godik.
In the next town they meet the little Girl Jenny, which ends up being kidnapped by the Pferdekraehe (Horsecrow :) ) They are following her to free the little girl. BEfore they achieve that they get to the City...

Silas is a circus boy, he nearly kills the cirus master after the circus master tries to make him swallow a sword, so in revenge silas plays his flute while the sircus master is swallowing the said sword, Silas then runs away and floats off down river, he then encounters some fat guy who just happens to own some horses, one very nice one too, that silas decides he likes, but all silas wants is some food and drink, but the fat guy wants him to work for him, he ends up betting the fat bloke that he can ride the horse, silas wins the bet, and the fat guy refuses to pay up, so Silas ends up having to take the horse... musical interlude with Silas riding his new horse... Silas rides into a deserted looking village, and someone recognises his horse, and invites him in for some food, they end up giving Silas some drug booze (hence its proberbly politically incorrect to show it today), Silas ends up being pushed downstream in a leaky boat, and his horse is knicked from him, he wakes up down stream, and guess what!! the circus has just arrived, and Silas ends up helping a blind girl get away from the circus master, then has to flee from her parents who want to sell him, anyway, he manages to get back to the village (after being whipped by some nasty blokes he tried to hitch a ride from), and meets up with the gingerhead boy, who knows Silas has lost his horse, and offers to help Silas get it back, so leads him to his hideout, where Silas is nabbed by the circus bloke again.....
