Guy Caballero used too much (in my opinion).

The character doesn't seem to have that much complexity or range. He was used to great effect a few times, but there were a lot of instances of him just talking to the audience for long stretches at a time at his desk or doing some wacky business like visiting Cinemax's office that had me stone-faced. The only reason I mention it is because he was the mascot of the show in a way, being the owner of the station and featured in many wrap-around stories. Seemed unfortunate to me that he was featured so heavily, given he was one of the less interesting characters (to me).

I hear what you're saying, but his cantankerous nature usually worked for me.

I thought Edith Prickley appeared too frequently in the last years, and a little bit of Mrs. Prickley goes a LONG way with me. Guy, though, he could usually make me laugh with his underhanded scheming, even in the final seasons.

I remember one episode where he read some letters from viewers asking him to air more British broadcasting on SCTV. He retorted that PBS got all the good stuff, and what was left over was really bad. Then he showed a clip from a ghastly British show called "You Be The Host". A trampy looking waitress (Andrea Martin) was telling the addled host about her dreams. An indignant Guy came back on to ask how people like that piece of "British brilliance" - we still use the phrase in our house today.

Flat, drab passion meanders across the screen!

I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Edith. She always made me laugh, no matter what mood I was in.
In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

I respectfully disagree with you about Guy Caballero - I liked how he was always trying to squeeze profit out of the station while spending as little money or energy in doing so.

I respect your respectful disagreement! :-)
