Amazon lists the running time of the DVD at 58 minutes.
When this show was released on VHS in the 1980s, it was shorter than the original HBO special. I can't recall exactly what was missing, but I think it was something to do with the Jelly Doughnuts.
Does anyone know if this DVD is the uncut version? Or the same edited version released on videotape?
I don't know what the official vhs version was like since all my copies have been taped off of HBO. In fact, I have one on my Tivo now and the running time is exactly 58 minutes. It has the 3 song Sly Stone medley with the Jelly Doughnuts - I don't know if that was missing from the vhs version.
Unfortunately, the dvd is strictly bare bones, and while I'll still buy it to have on dvd, I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of extras. Like the equally lacking Playhouse dvd set, this one could have been so much better.
I e-mailed Image Entertainment asking them if The Pee-wee Herman Show DVD will be the original uncut. Image Entertainment e-mailed me back and said its the original HBO Special, uncut.
