What do you think PC will eventually do to OFAH?

We've already lost the word Paki, the 'Jimmy Saville' gag at the seance on BBC broadcasts, probably eventually the scene where Del cons Denzil into the decorating job instead of the 'no good drunken Irishman' (even though I'm Irish and it doesn't bother me) but I wonder will we eventually lose scenes like the Irene/Mickey Pearce phone call because Del's reaction might be considered homophobic?

yes, probably because even having a view against homesexuality is a crime now!

TBH OFAH seems to be one of the few exceptions that seem to get away with being un-PC.... and to be honest, this is pretty much gone/written out by the end of series 4 (though still a couple of comments here and there, but nothing on series 1-2.

Given how much it is loved still by the public and keeps a place in peoples hearts, I think it will remain intact, with minimal cuts to it for years to come.

You may well find that after Brexit, it may well go the other way and things may be put back in. After all it does only seem to be transmission copies that have been cut for this particular reason.

The "He's definitely a bandit that one. Tonight we dance with our backs against the wall" line has been cut from Go West Young Man on GOLD for quite a while now.

Really? I never noticed. I always thought the first [homophobic?] comment to go would be when he's in hospital and suggests he may have contracted (AID's or some other STD?) from 'Jason' the hair dresser.

I still think the 'they used to call him the Jimmy Saville of Peckham' line is still in the one where Albert falls down the hole.

A couple that stood out for me when rewatching recently:

In Ashes To Ashes, when having trouble getting rid of the mortal remains of Trigger's grandad, Del briefly considers dumping the ashes in a cement mixer. When a builder appears, Del calls the mixer a 'Paddy tumble dryer.'

In Video Nasty, whilst the Trotters are waiting in the Chinese Take-Away, Marlene and Boycie enter, arguing about their visit to the fertility clinic. Marlene accuses Boycie of 'firing more blanks than the Territotrials'. And Del then asks, "What's wrong Boycie? You're not a nuffter are you?" Complete with limp-wrist action.

Either show them uncut our don't show them that's my motto

reply

Couldn't agree more.

reply

Get the DVDs, like I have. No problems then, you can hear all of the "pakis" and "spics" you want to, then!

reply

However you then have to contend with the music licencing cuts.

reply

It's a shame about the music licencing cuts but at least we've finally got the uncut version of Jolly Boy's Outing with the cabaret singer sequence.

reply

What format is that on?
