When was it at it's peak?

I personally think it was the jolly boys outing, series 6 had just finished (which I think is the best series) and then came the Xmas special of the jolly boys outing, which I think is the funniest and best written episode. What does everyone else think?

I agree with you about the Jolly Boys Outing being the peak in many ways however its peak in terms of ratings was the 1996 trilogy.

I personally liked it right until the last episode on 2003 and still enjoy watching it until the end of Sleepless in Peckham every time I do a rewatch. I won't however watch that crappy David Beckham infected sketch from this year after though.

my personal favorite episode are the ones after grandad died, but before the move to 40 minutes. After that format changes slightly and we get a kind of ensemble cast.

87 - 89 for me.

This covers the two specials before Series 6 (Frogs Legacy and Dates), then the start of series 6 (Yuppy Love, Danger UXD, Chain Gang).

Five very strong episodes in a row with some significant moments

Frogs Legacy - this special has the beginning of the Freddie the Frog mystery. Plus the link with Rene who also appears in Rock and Chips as Joan's best friend.
Dates - another great special, introduced Raquel (who obviously disappears until Jolly Boys)
Yuppy Love - introduction of Cassandra (for better or worse!)
Danger UXD - blow up dolls - most people remember this episode
Chain Gang - love the way the minor characters were all involved in this episode and a great ending

Second half of series 6 not as good, but then JBO is next which is a great episode as OP says.

Rodney's wedding was a peak , as was Rodney's rows with Cassandra , Rodney having to pretend he's 14, when Del Boy first meets Racquel.

in terms on TV rating, 96 trilogy.....

In terms of strong writing and run of good episodes, probably 1986 through to 1989 (with the exception of A Royal Flush").

During this period you probably had some of the strongest run of episodes, with everything coming into place that had been building up for the last couple of year.

I remember being excited about it going from 30 to 50 minutes (series 6 I think) However I missed Grandad. They also spent a lot more money on it around this time.
Best Christmas episodes imo, Dates, Jolly Boys and Peckham Spring, so anything around this time for me.

I think OFAH's strongest period started with the Christmas Special ''Date's'', right through series 6 to the Christmas special ''The Jolly boys outing'' Series 6 was the best series and those two xmas specials were probably the best xmas specials, so this period to me is the peak of greatness for the series.

Late 80s for me. Some of the early eps were a bit bland and predictable whilst some of the later eps were too over the top and silly.

My two favourite episodes are 'Tea for Three' and 'Stage Fright' so for me the period from mid 1986 to early 1991.
