I can't believe I'm the first to ost here. What a great show this was, I just wish they would bring out the seasons on dvd....its been several years since the first season. Guess it didn't do well enough to rate releasing the others. Bloody shame....still, at least I have the first series to make me chuckle.
Yes, I've been enjoying the reruns on ITV3, well the ones I haven't missed anyway. Some of the jokes are very obvious, but I enjoy the performances and the characters. I remember watching it as a very young boy, so it is a good bit of nostalgia for me. You can tell which episodes I have managed to catch on the reruns as they are gradually appearing on this site with complete cast lists! lol
Unfortunately I'm stuck in Canada for the moment - had to move here from the UK due to work - so can't catch the re-runs. All I have is the first season on dvd and they aren't releasing any of the rest of it. Real shame, this show had me laughing fit to bust for a lot of years.
Yes, must be terrible stuck there with all those wide open spaces and beautiful scenic views, and getting to see Niagra Falls for real, but having to miss Never the Twain
Trust me mate, the old maxim "the grass isn't always greener" couldn't have fuller meaning for me. If I could be back in London right now, I wouldn't think twice about it; and when I do get back if I never here the word "Canada" again I'll be a happy man.
As far as missing Never the Twain, you try watching Canadian television - it's impossible. At least in Britian we get the best of both worlds, the small percentage of good stuff from the America's plus our own tv. All you get here is advert after mindless advert with 2 minutes of tv in between. I haven't watched anything that wasn't on dvd for 2 years because the last time I tried to sit down and watch the local channels I had the urge to put my foot through the screen after 20 minutes.
Well it was Ok, It had a certain charm about it with Sinden and Davies competing against one another Looking at it now It was very formulaic Don't Wait Up of the same era was a kind of similar sort of idea
I've just started watching the first series on DVD, and I love it! The plotlines are very traditional and unoriginal, but I like the whole situation and I absolutely adore the conversations between Smallbridge and Peel! They are actually discussing things, but everything they say is an insult at the same time...marvellous. Such a pity only series 1 has appeared on DVD (and I had to buy it second-hand because there were no new ones), I'd love to see the other 10 too!
Darling, We're the Young Ones Hammersmith Hardwoman #11
I has always thought that this show was created backwards - instead of starting with a show concept, and then doing the casting, they started with the desire to get the two fruitiest voices on television together in one show, and then looked for a concept, thinking that no matter how daft the show, Sinden and Davies would bring in the audiences.
Yes :( I read that later after I made this post. Very sad but he certainly had an eventful and well-storied career on stage and screen. Watching repeats of this make me appreciate him all the more as well as nostalgically taking me back to fond childhood memories.
