Does anyone else remember this show?

I remember this show, it doesn't really seem as though there are any fans out there. I was really young and I used to watch it with my sister. I remember at the end of each episode Mr Merlin would walk up some white stairs that looked as though it lead to nothing. I can't remember how long it lasted for though.

I remember and loved this show. Don't think it lasted too long, but I'd love to see it released on DVD.

Someone in a review said they had most of the episodes. Just curious how? I don't believe there were enough episodes for it to have been syndicated.

Any news on a release, please post it here for the few of us fans there appear to be for this show! :)

The USA network reran this for a little while in the 80's. Shows like this will probably never make any money for whoever owns them. I wish they would put them in the public domain so they could be released on cheap dollar store dvd's.

I remember this show -- was rather funny but that was its charm.

reply

I think I do.
Is it the story about wizzard Merlin owning a fuel station in the present and having to teach a boy Magic so Merlin does not loose his magical skills?

reply

Yes, and the boy becomes his apprentice.

I remember this show! I didn't know the name of it for years but finally ran across the title. If there are any developments on how to get the episodes, please post the info here.

reply

Sure, I've been searchin for ages.

Sadly Barnard Hughes who played Mr Merlin passed away today.

Yes, I remembered this show and was soory to hear mr Merlin just died, but he was 90 so he lived a good life. Funny how us hear all remember him in that role when he did so much. I used to love this show when I was much younger.

reply

Oh that's so sad, he was a great actor!

This was my favorite Series in the 80s :)
I taped every Episode, but they didn't released two :(
I never understand, that the Series was canceld, I think it was a really, great
show full of fantasy, humour and so on.

I remember. This was one of my favorite shows as a little 8yr old kid. I vaguely recall an episode - I think it's the pilot - in which the star snags a love potion. I still have a Mr Merlin book I bought at one of the grade school book fairs. heh And how ironic to think of him now that way, walking up white stairs which seem to lead to nothing. Mr Hughes will be missed.

Perhaps if anyone finds any eps on some network or elsewhere, they could post them on Youtube. Would love to revisit my youth with this show. :)

Merlin fans.

I've finally started transferring my VHS collection (dating back to 1981) to DVD and have all 22 episodes of Mr Merlin. Loved it then, still do now. Took me a few years in the 80s to collect them and 9 are from Holland with Dutch subtitling, though many are excellent, being from British ITV transmissions. Can I fill gaps in for anyone?

I remember this show, and I loved it. I watched it as a youngster growing up in Sweden, my siblings also loved it.

I remember this show and just out of spontaniaty wanted to see if any record of it existed on the internet (woefully short wikipedia article! :().

I liked his (Merlin's) door that led to outer space!

I have a sketchy memory but I recall seing one episode where the apprentice was at a restaurant (maybe on a date) and had some "magical artifact" in his pocket that I think resulted in flooding the area (perhaps with soap bubbles.) And there was another episode (maybe the last one I remember seeing) that featured some kind of plant with accelerated growth.

I can't believe I still remember this show after 26-27 years having only seen it in its original run.

Anyone remember Mr. Smith (from the same period) ????

My e-mailaddress is [email protected]

I have been waiting for a long time to buy "Mr. Merlin" on DVD. Alas !
Would you have the time to make a copy and send it to Australia?
What would be a fair pecuniary reembursement ?

reply

Sorry I haven't replied for ages - I've been out of touch from the internet.

I can do you a copy of all the episodes on DVD from 1981 VHS recordings fromthe UK and Holland on 3 DVDs for £16 including postage to Oz.

Ifyou want, pay by Paypal to [email protected] and I'll do them fast for you.

It's still a wonderful series, even with hindsight.

I loved this show as a kid, I remember watching it with my brother and the episode with the little wooden puzzle that is impossible to solve. What a shame it's not available on DVD, I would definitely buy it! If you still have those DVD's and when I eventually get some money together, can you still run off a copy?
