Masada Score

I'd kill for a remastered re-release of this rousing score. Heck, I'd even kill for an old copy. Well okay, maybe not kill, but grievously injure. Wounded Bird and Rhino would seem to be prime candidates to show Jerry Goldsmith's "Masada" some much needed love...

You do know that Varese Sarabande has already released the Masada score a long time ago, right?

Yes, I realize it's long out of print, so if you're still looking for it I can upload it somewhere for you.

Coincidentally, there is also a complete score bootleg out there for Masada which I have yet to find, but I'm still looking. This is the back cover of it: http://i29.tinypic.com/zxp5yx.jpg

Fantastic! So how would one get hold of the Goldsmith original tracks bootleg? I have many different boots out there but not of Masada. I have the release that Varese did but it's not original - it was rerecorded in the era when almost all scores were redone for LP release because the 'reuse' fees were prohibitive. Orchestra members demanded repayment for each original LP sold. So what Goldsmith (and many other composers) would do for many of his scores is use another foreign orchestra (where the same rules didn't apply) and redo the score to fit the LP time limits. He did this for Masada, Alien, Omen II, Capricorn One, Under Fire, Wind and the Lion, etc. John Williams did it for The Fury, Jaws, and others. Things have changed since, which is why many of the original tracks are being released, cue-by-cue and we're now getting originals like Alien, and The Swarm. Many, such as The Wind and the Lion, Omen II and Williams' The Fury are being released with the originals and the rerecordings combined. Others are in the works - let's hope Masada is one. I also want a complete original Under Fire as well (done a year later).

How did you get hold of the original Masada tracks? Are they in MP3 format? I have so many scores, regulars and boots, on my computer now. Sometimes the wait is half the fun.

No more need for killing or even bodily mishandling. Tonight the Intrada label has announced a limited-edition release of the complete score of MASADA by Jerry Goldsmith and Morton Stevens -- 149 minutes' worth, from the Universal Studios soundtrack masters! For those of us who have loved this music for 30 years, it's an amazing development.

And at 5,000 copies, the quantity is more generous than most limited releases!

I have a copy of the ORIGINAL, 9-track "Masada" score released on Universal MCA records from 1981, on CD!

I could make a CD copy along with the original cover picture, for anyone interested, only for the cost of shipping & handling.

I would be very interested in that. Let me know how much....
