The lovely Michael Knowles

He's really gorgeous! What else has he been in? I thought he was so funny in this.

He was Teddy Meldrum (incidentally, one of my favourite comedy characters of all time) in You Rang M'Lord in the late eighties and early nineties. I think that's a Perry and Croft one, and it's brilliant. I bought the DVDs this year because it first came out when I was about four so I couldn't remember it properly.

Also he did the voice of the Captain of the Air Force (I think) in the cartoon version of the Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl.

Michael Knowles is brilliant as Captain Ashwood and as Teddy Meldrum! I love all the Perry and Croft comedies, they're the best in the world!

By the way, IridescentTranquility, I like your sig...from Blackadder the Third, Ink and Incapability, isn't it? (I love Blackadder too!)

reply

Certainly is. That's the problem with Blackadder quotes - trying to get one that's short enough to fit the signature line.

i think they're fine for a sig!!

Yes, it's always fun to spot the lead actors from one Croft/Perry/Lloyd show guest starring in another! A few other examples:

Mavis Pugh (Lady Lavender from YRML) guested as Chief Commander Crisp in IAHHM

Jeffrey Holland (Spike from HDH, James from YRML) guested as the RAF superstar in IAHHM

Windsor Davies (Sergeant Major from IAHHM) guested as the Mayor in ODB

Gorden Kaye (René from AA) guested as a soldier in IAHHM

John D. Collins (Fairfax from AA, Jerry from YRML) guested in five (!) other Croft/Perry/Lloyd shows: DA (the film), AYBS, HDH, IAHHM, and ODB!

Michael Knowles also wrote four episodes of AYBS.

I just remembered - I knew I'd seen one of the It Ain't Half Hot cast somewhere else in You Rang M'Lord . . . Stuart McGugan (Gunner McIntosh, as I recall) was one of the workers at Lord Meldrum's factory.

Oh, and Frank Williams, who was the Bishop in You Rang M'Lord was also the Vicar in Dad's Army but I don't recall seeing him in this - I could be wrong, though.

reply

That's right! Stuart McGugan played Jock McGregor in You Rang M'Lord, and Frank Williams was the vicar in Dad's Army (his characters were very similar, I think).

I also recently spotted Jack Haig (Monsieur Leclerc in 'Allo 'Allo) in Dad's Army as a gardener!

He always reminded me of Prince Charles when I was young.

Its that man again!!

Gorden Kaye (René from AA) also appeared in at least one episode of AYBS - where he played the part of a paparazzi

Janet Davies (Mrs. Pike of DA) appeared in one episode of AYBS - where she is unwilling to accept and outsize dress from the persistent Mrs. Slocombe

and i am discovering more crossovers.

It's such a pleasant surprise when they happen :-)

reply

Chris Andrews (Gary from HDH) was a nameless German soldier once in AA.
