Question From an American to Anyone (Old enough to know) in The UK

Back in the 80's when this show was made, were any of the main actors considered a sex symbol or a heartthrob, such as we have now with David Beckham or Ryan Gosling, or *swoon* Johnny Depp ;) ? (I can definitely see it in David Dixon, but I may be wrong?)
