Just finished watching all 7 seasons for my first time

Great show. My only memories from when it was on was my parents watching it and the theme song would stick in my head. I gotta say that Fay could get on my nerves sometimes, same with LaRue. Fay seemed to get a little calmer towards the end of her appearances which I liked but LaRue kinda bugged me the whole time. Renko got on my nerves at first but he grew on me. I was disappointed when they killed off Joe. But regardless I enjoyed watching all the seasons.

I think when they brought in Dennis Franz in as Norm Buntz sparked new life into the series. He was definitely the best thing about seasons 6 & 7.

I agree with you about Franz--and I like your signature. My favorite quote from Spenser is, "The worst beer I ever had was wonderful."

That not only applies to beer, but to sex as well.

Yeah that was a good move, he was great on the show.

I would definitely agree about Franz. And he was terrific in "NYPC Blue" a few years later.

Probably the only reason why I watched that particular show was because of him and his HSB tenure. He plays similar characters - sleazy, underhand, world-weary; but always thorough, always focused, and always charismatic.

Of course I should have said "NYPD Blue"

Denis Franz is just excellent. As a fan of the show from the beginning though - it was a little confusing seeing him come back to the series after him being a corrupt cop earlier in the series (Sal Benedetto). Just shows what a catch he was when they asked him back.
