Is Flamingo Road completely forgotten?

Vaguely remember FR from my early teens, the BBC showed it lateish on a week night. Morgan Fairchild & gorgeous Mark Harmon made an impression.... Unlikely to ever make DVD. Is it ever rerun? And NO bootlegs on ebay ;-(

Yeah, this would be GREAT to have a copy of! If you ever find anyone that has a copy, please let me know. Would LOVE to watch it's trashiness again! Too much fun!!

A very good show, no one seems to remember ir, although lead cast member John Beck went on to play Mark Graison in Dallas

I loved it then and need to dig up my old VHS tapes. At one point about ten years ago, they were running it on the soap opera cable channel I believe.

reply

Would had been forgotten but for Mark Harmon, who is till going strong as an actor.

Its that man again!!

I enjoyed this show way more than Knots Landing or Dallas really...I was in about 8th grade when it was on. Would love to see it again.

I just acquired the 1981 Sparks Roadster driven by Sam ( john beck ) in the season one episodes.if you know of any other episodes the white rumble seat roadster was in let me know, the car was hand built by Mr. Sparks, only 25 were built, only five known to exist today.

The car is in need of a total restoration and I will be raising funds on Kickstarter.com soon to restore this rare car to its former beauty.

Great show. In my opinion, much more entertaining than any of the other nighttime soaps (Dallas, Dynasty, etc.), none of which I could ever make it through more than one episode. Great cast: Morgan Fairchild, Cristina Raines (whatever happened to her?), Mark Harmon, John Beck, Stella Stevens, David Selby, Peter Donat, Kevin McCarthy, Howard Duff. Duff's portrayal of the evil Titus Semple was nothing short of brilliant.

Would love to see it again somehow.

I thought I was alone on this but I like this show a bit better then "Dallas" and I like "Dallas". I found it much better then "Knots Landing". Actually this show is much better then any wannabe nighttime soap on TV today.

The first series of Flamingo Road was actually shown in a prime time Saturday night slot in the summer of 1981 (after that years season of Dallas ended). Ratings were not good and the BBC were already committed to the second season, so they delayed showing it until 1984 when it was relegated to 11.10pm on Tuesday nights, that slot was also reserved for other US imported ratings failures such as Remmington Steele and Glitter (soap set in a glossy mag).

I remember watching it in my pre-teen years and falling for Mark Harmon and John Beck. It was a great show.

Morgan Fairchild was a wbitch before Donna Mills (Abby) on Knot's Landing.

reply

Actually Donna and Morgan were bitches at ALMOST the same time. The Flamingo Road TV movie aired in May 1980, and became a series in January 1981. Donna Mills joined Knots Landing in it's second season which was broadcast 1980-81.

So which bitch was the better bitch?

Opinions?

I remember it being on....but was never a Morgan fan so didn't watch it. I was into all the others though (and still am)

I'm a fan of John Beck, I searched him on You Tube and found a clip of the opening credits for F.R. Maybe they've added more clips since then?

This was my second favorite show after Dallas. I really loved it but it didn't last.

I actually saw the whole series first run, and only think about it occasionally, but it was a good show. It probably could have lasted at least another 1 or 2 seasons just to see things wrap up nicely.

reply

If NBC was smart, they should have stuck with it for at least another season. It could have been a bigger hit. Maybe as big as Dynasty or Falcon Crest or Knots. It was NBC's only successful prime time soap of the '80s. CBS had Dallas, Knots and Falcon Crest, ABC had Dynasty.
