Boy, no one really talks about Flamingo Road?????????

The show started about the same time as Dynasty did.
They were both "mid-season replacements" and began in january/february 1981.
"Flamingo Road" was an NBC show, while Dynasty was on ABC.
I liked Flamingo Road much more than Dynasty.
Morgan Fairchild "wanted it all and she wanted it now"............
Woody Brown, who played her brother said to Constance (Morgan) ......"because we all can't be SNOBS LIKE YOU"! in an early episode...
Beautiful Barbara Rush played Morgan Fairchild's mother, as Kevin McCarthy played her father.
And Howard Duff played the Evil sheriff...
it was a great show, but did not have the staying power that Dynasty ended up having.
I wish they would put it on DVD though. hope they do someday!

As it only lasted for 30 odd episodes and is nearly 30 years old then, yes few people will talk about it.

Yet five people searched for Flamingo Road on IMDB and gave it 1 out of 10.

I watched in the early 80s and loved it too. I never watched Dallas or Knot's Landing or Dynasty, but I did succumb to watching Falcon Crest too, which Morgan was on for a while. And, of course, I watched Paper Dolls on ABC for Morgan too.

I loved this show. Lane and Field were awesome. Mark Harmon was a cutie. My favorite was Lutiemae Stella Stevens and Morgan Fairchild as Field's wife.

Without being too shallow, it did have some hot women!

Its that man again!!

Hot women?!? What about those men?!? John Beck, Mark Harmon, Woody Brown, Fernando Allende, David Selby, heck even Constance's physical therapist got to go shirtless!

I always felt NBC should have had more patience with the show and eventually it would grown into a bigger hit. Dynasty and Knots started small and grew into huge hits and long-lasting series. NBC never did have a successful primetime soap in the 80s (Bare Essence, The Yellow Rose, Berrenger's all cancelled after one season) and this show was their best shot at providing NBC with a successful long-running primetime soap.

That being said, what would have happened in season 3? How would the voodoo plot and Michael Tyronne's resurrection being played out?

In retrospect, FR's cancellation led to David Selby joining the cast of Falcon Crest that next season. He did such a great job in that role, it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the character (although Michael Swan played the role first in the original unaired pilot episode).

I actually remember this show. I thought it was a good show with a lot of promise. It really had a good cast, too, and was very entertaining, much better than any of the other NBC nighttime soaps around the early 80s that tried and failed.

I remember the story was interesting at first, then it got stuck, then it resorted to nutty plot twists and characters going off the rails. Writers never seemed to have a long story arc and seemed to be hacking out scripts one at a time.
