WHERE ARE THE REMAINING SEASONS 4-9 DVD'S ?

Can someone explain how is possible to release at once all 5 seasons of the series called HOTEL which had minimum success back in the day compared to FALCON CREST and there are no more seasons after season 3 available from this series in dvd ?

reply

Season four is available on iTunes I believe.

I think it becomes difficult with music rights once Apollonia hits the scene.

reply

on tunes yeah.....not on dvd.....

Poor sales of previous dvds of Falcon Crest and Knots Landing are the main reason more seasons haven't been released. Lorimar being bought out by Warners probably didn't help. Music rights for Appolonia definitely has nothing to do with it- she appeared in, I think, 7 or 8 episodes in season 5, and it would be really easy to edit out any music if that were the case, which it's not.

Trust me, if FC or KL had sold better, all the seasons would have been released. The best way to sell the dvds would be to sell all the seasons at once, like as a limited edition box set, for $250. That's a lot of money, but the true fans will go for it.

reply

oh c'mon.....enough with that poor sales excuse all the time.

so u think when they released HOTEL SEASON 1 the sales were big and then they released all 5 hotel seasons at once ?

I DON'T THINK SO.

There are many dvd series releases that don't sell much but they continue to release them.it's just F.C is not one of them.

reply

Lol... if poor sales isn't a factor, then why do you think the dvds haven't been released?

reply

I'm not saying it's not a factor. but what i'm saying is there are other series which have poor sales and yet they keep release them.
i'm sure HOTEL is one of those series.

NOW HOW CAN U EXPLAIN THAT ?

reply

Well, I checked out amazon and I think there are a couple of explanations. First, Hotel was made by a different production company than FC. Second, and probably most significantly, there were only 5 seasons of Hotel, vs 9 for Falcon Crest and 14 for Knots Landing. The studio would lose much more money releasing 9 seasons vs 5 seasons. So in other words, if FC had only been on for 5 seasons, it would have been more economically feasible for the studio to release it.

That's why the best bet to get FC on DVD is for the studio to release the series all at once as a set, probably at a price of $200-250.

I wanted to add, most dvd releases are scheduled at certain intervals. It wasn't until FC season 3 was released that the studio realized the series was a poor seller. But because there were 6 more seasons, they just stopped it. Now look at Hotel- they released 3 seasons before they realized what a poor seller it was. But with only 2 seasons left, the studio could afford the loss.

That is my best guess.

reply

only one season of HOTEL was released seperately and then all 5 seasons released together despite poor sales of season 1.

there are series which had just 2 seasons like FLAMINGO ROAD 1981 for example and they were never released.

it's important to know they release series either with many or few seasons no matter if they sell good or not.

look at the smurfs cartoon 80s series. there are 9 seasons and only season 1 was released so far although S1 sold well.

that's what i'm talking about. something else is going on here which defines the way they chose to release the tv series.

are u by a chance active seller at www.sell.com i thought i saw a list like that there.

do u have the love boat series as well ?

reply

Flamingo Road was produced by the same company as Falcon Crest and Knots Landing, so that seems to be a common thread.

I would love to see an original, studio released dvd set of Flamingo Road come out. With only two seasons and that all star cast, it could happen. I would flip to hear commentaries by Morgan Fairchild, Stella Stevens, Cristina Raines, Mark Harmon, or Stella Stevens. Just getting it released on DVD would be fabulous, though- anything else would be icing.

see what i told ya .? it's about....companies policy more than poor sales or number of seasons.

look at the wonder years......they released all 6 seasons at once and then they released them also seperately.

that's so unfair.
