Amazon's selling the DVD for ยฃ4.50... It depends on your definition of good... The acting's very of its time - i.e. not exactly naturalistic... All the male characters are a bit pompous, while the female characters are largely rather gormless, which, while very faithfully reflecting Wyndham's novel, doesn't always make for comfortable viewing in the 21st century... Having said that, it's the best adaption of the novel that I've seen - the Howard Keel film and the Eddie Izzard / Joely Richardson mini-series both diverging from the source material quite markedly... It's really rather atmospheric, the triffids - apart from when they're "walking" - are excellent, even by today's standards and it must have the creepiest theme tune ever written... Despite the faults - which are more or less entirely due to adapting Wyndham's writing too faithfully - I rather liked it and I'd say that, at ยฃ4.50, you certainly wouldn't be wasting your money.

Yes you can pick it up on DVD from Amazon. Personally it's one of my favorite sci-fi series. Very well made and sticks very close to the book. I watch it once a year and love it every time.

Yes to both questions. It's a great film, and John Duttine, who is perhaps better known for the BBC series "To Serve Them All My Days" is very good in the film, as is his co-star.

I remember watching it when the BBC mini-series came out, and I liked it then. Just purchased it on DVD from eBay, and we watched it last night.

The series as filmed stands the test of time quite well, and is probably hands-down the best filmed version available.
