in the very first episode he shows a planet vested in red light and then refers to life on it.
he then goes on to say that he wonders what music they have, food they eat and so on.
is he actually refering to a confirmed alien species?

Speculation. It's likely there is other intelligent life in the universe and he is daydreaming about what it might be like.
