Reaction to original series

I'm curious about how Americans reacted to the original series in light of the outrage at the current series hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Was there a similar reaction to scientific knowledge being awful and persecutory to christian beliefs? Does anyone know if it was viewed as controversial?

It's hard to tell in the days before the internet. Personally as an American, I loved the original series when I was a kid, and re-watched it recently. As for the new series, I have nothing good to say ...

The original was on PBS. People had lives back then. They didn't sit around wasting away on the internet and watching 24/7 cable news.

The new show is garbage simply because it lacks nuance and information. Its more in your face with its political views and fails to give evidence to back up its views. Its just a poorly made show. Sad we had to wait 30yrs trash.

Like I said in another post, Sagan's series aired on PBS which was a different audience altogether.

FOX's audience is intentionally geared towards the conservative who has emotional problems, or difficulties with education. It's why there are so many programs that might be deemed lacking in taste or over the top that are aired on that network.

The original was the best hands down. The new one containedway too much climate change and other political garbage.
