DVD?

The first two seasons of "Butterflies" are available on DVD. Will the third and fourth seasons be released?

Dear dgave,

I have written to Acorn Media recently about this and I've just received a reply from them. They had told me that they didn't have the rights to the last two seasons, so we won't be seeing anymore of Butterflies anytime soon.

Yes, but the trouble is that those DVDs won't play in Region 1 (united states) DVD players. Darn these silly regions! We miss out on lots of great stuff being made in other countries...

Many DVD players these days are multi-region capable, failing that you could play them on your PC if it has a DVD drive.

There's always a way ..........

I can't afford multi region DVD's, all of my players are Region 1.

But if I can play it on my PC that is good news! Rushing over to amazon.co.uk right now... I feel a spree coming on.

I can't speak for the US, but here in the UK its mostly cheaper DVD players that are multi-region. I would be very surprised if it wasn't the same in the US, but they often aren't advertised as such. I would suggest noting the make and model of the cheapest available - at Wal-mart or even Amazon, then checking the specs at http://www.videohelp.com/, you may very well find that they are easily hacked, usually with something like a 4 digit code.

My friend won a £100+ Sony DVD player and it could do far less than a £20 supermarket one.

Your bigger problem may be your TV. Virtually all UK TVs can play NTSC (US), but I'm told that US TVs often cant play PAL (the UK format), so check what your TV can accept (or, if you've bought a UK disc, buy a player from somewhere like Wal-mart, which I assume has a 28 day return period - they do here - and imput the hack and try it on your TV).
