Was the German Mini-Series shown in English Speaking World?

I was fortunate enough to see the 300 minute television mini-series (Six 50 minute episodes) twice on German Television when I was living there. The film was partly financed by the German television networks WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) and SDR (Süddeutscher Rundfunk). I know the TV mini-series is available on DVD in the UK but just out of curiosity was the German Television mini-series shown on television in the English speaking world?

PS Any English speakers who can speak German may I strongly suggest you watch the German Language version as things really do get lost or left out in translation. If you are in the UK order it from Amazon Deutschland at http://www.amazon.de/Das-Boot-Mini-J%C3%BCrgen-Prochnow/dp/B0001NIYUO as DVD region 2 covers all of Europe. The film's German tagline Eine Reise ans Ende des Verstandes translates as a Journey to the edge of the mind. The film is based on a true story.

I remember catching the mini series on BBC2 back in the 90's in the UK.

Ezekiel_Stone, many thanks for the reply. I was living in Germany during the 90’s so I would not have known that & since my return to the UK I’ve never seen the German mini-series on UK tele so I was curious.

In the commentary to the Director's Cut DVD, Wolfgang Petersen tells, that Great Britain and France also co-financed the production of the mini-series, and that it was show in those two counties and (West)Germany in 1985.

It was also shown in New Zealand.

Interesting view of the International Scope of the film/mini-series. Actually, in the mid-80's (I think 1985), the mini-series was broadcast in the U.S. on the Bravo channel over five nights. Back then Bravo was commercial-free and showed many Independent and "Art House" films. I cannot remember, but believe it was shown with subtitles.
