...have I seen the movie? I'm trying to watch all movies from top 250 list, and I've seen the "original uncut version", but can I now cross the movie off my list? This is of course a subject that everybody can have a different opinion about, but that's why I'm asking yours. Is it same enough? Or should I see the short version?
Wait! Does this also mean putting out doesn't get you love?
That depends. I'm Danish, and in my collection resides the 1-DVD (216 mins - The Director's Cut) and the 2-DVD (302 mins - The Original Uncut Version) versions. Both films are with German Soundtrack (the DC also has English soundtrack) and subtitled in several languages. And for a fortnight or something like that I thought This Is It. But No-no-no. In December 2010 I saw (a small part of) a version on Danish TV I had not seen before - and I don't want to see it again! It was set to be about the same runtime as the DC (some 3,5 hours), and the soundtrack was German. But it was a different cut from the 1-DVD version - some shots were left out, some shots were included (but as far as I remember they were all part of the 5 hours version). All was fine, until I read what Ullman wrote in his letter to Francoise, and Werner in his diary - that was written in English!!! I'm a bit happy that getting a gun is very difficult here in Denmark or I should have gone to the Danish Radio Corporation to find somebody to shoot ;-) And furthermore: The subtitles of the DC are based on the English-language soundtrack - which makes listening to the German soundtrack a bit strange - I tell you: it's very close to being two different films!
