Glad you're interested in the car! According to John Nettles in his book "Bergerac's Jersey" the vehicle in question IS a Triumph Roadster (a forerunner of the TR-6 and TR-7). It was actually a 1947 model, so its post-war, and two were actually used in the whole of the series.
The first was a right old clunker and was mechanically unreliable. It sounded terrible and the BBC had to resort to using a second soundtrack to give the car the air of coolness it needed. It also had a nasty habit of not stopping when it was supposed to, something to do with a faulty push-rod system and accidents were only narrowly avoided.
The second was much more sound and for many years could be seen as an exhibit at Jersey Goldsmiths next to a rather unimpressive cardboard cut-out of Bergerac himself. It was later sold off to a private collector.

an unreliable Triumph car...who could possibly believe that ?

reply

look at: http://www.jim-bergerac.de

reply

John Nettles was rude to my granmother when she asked for a ride in the car.
racist git!

Can't spell won't spell

reply

Insurance often prevents others riding in this sort of vehicle. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

reply

He was giving other people rides!

Can't spell won't spell

reply

Doesn't sound like John Nettles - what evidence do you have it had anything to do with race?

reply

Some how I doubt if he was giving any body rides.
A certainly not some body who sounds as rude as you come across as.

reply

Great site, Joerg. I recommend everyone to have a look.

reply

it was morgan and its one of my dreamcars

reply

Apparently you don't recognise your dream-car. Be careful you don't get sold a Triumph Roadster instead!

reply

By the way, OP, Bergerac was a Sergeant, not an Inspector.

reply

When I asked him about the car he explained that the one they used most was a replica kit car, as the real one was too unreliable.

reply

There were two Triumph roadssters used.
NO KIT CARS WHAT SO EVER>
So Who ever you claim to have asked told you wrong or was it porkies on your behave?

reply

Well the person who told me was John Nettles actually.

reply

Then your dreams must be Nightmares.
That car was Triumph Roadster NOT A MORGAN.
