Video Treasures Copy

By far the worst version of the film. I really need to get the DVD... This is what reads on the back of the cover...

As a boy, he saw mommy making love to Santa Claus. As an adult, he is a crazed killer who has kept a list of all the girls who have been good, and all the girls who have been bad. It's Christmas time, and all the bad girls are in trouble.

A man dressed as Santa Claus is stalking the streets, brutally murdering innocent girls. Who's to say if the kindly old gent, who's knee your daughter sits upon, is a maniacal murderer?

Wow, that doesn't sound that much like Christmas Evil at all. I have the DVD released by Synapse and it's a great version of the film.

Its a shame that the movie had to be promoted as a slasher film and not as the social satire piece that it really is. Slashers were the thing and Video Treasures was hoping to cash in on the home video demand for them. You should definitely make a point to get the SYNAPSE DVD in particular -- don't get one of the bargain bin versions or you'll just end up with the same crappy analog transfer on the tape.

I unfortunately have the crappy analog transfer on Video Treasures. Were scenes cut from the VHS that were on the DVD?

As for the slasher vs. satire theory, I think it's all in the eye of the beholder. I saw satire as well, but video-box descriptions are usually pretty lame.

The quality of the transfer on the Video Treasures version was absolutely atrocious. And that plot summary is completely erroneous and misleading to boot!

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find
