Dalek sighting??

At the 39 min mark of this week's comcast OnDemand EncoreChannel presentation of Xanadu I was startled by a huuuge monster emerging from darkness and fog, unmistakably a headon view of the mother/father of all "DrWho" Daleks.

The filmmakers claimed it was just a train !? Be that as may be, still, there's more than a passing resemblence. #Exterminate!

It is hardly likely to be a Dalek if it is huge, they are tiny.

Let Zygons Be Zygons.

Actually, that's what I thought of too. And I'm not really a Doctor Who fan, but I know what a Dalek looks like.

reply

I just watched the film yesterday, and Dr Who never crossed my mind. And I grew up in England watching Dr Who.

It makes train sounds, gives off train steam, and has a train crossing signal.

Clearly a train.

Just watched the CinemaSnob review yesterday and I thought the same thing. I can't say I ever got this from watching the actual movie, although to be honest it's one of the slower parts of the movie that I tend to flip away from when it's on.

Got a link to the scene?

lol, okay. It kind of looks like a dalek, but it would have to be an awfully big dalek. 

That's a Dalek!!The thing is when I first saw this movie I had never seen a Dalek before.

That's just my two cents.

It is the front of a streamlined train engine. It is very stylized, but it is a train. There is even a train sound effect as it emerges.

It is indeed a steam locomotive, or a replica. It is the Milwaukee Road (Chicago, Milwaukee, St.Paul & Pacific Railway) locomotive No. 2, a streamlined Atlantic-type designed to haul that railroad's Hiawatha passenger trains. Whether real or replicated, it is very accurate and beautifully done. Too bad it was obscured by steam so much. I'm not sure of the point, but the mixing of eras was one of the themes of the film.
